PHILADELPHIA – Today, the City of Philadelphia announced that Hans Menos would serve as the Executive Director for the Police Advisory Commission (PAC). Throughout his career, Hans has worked with a variety of vulnerable populations, including marginalized youth, recent immigrants, victims of domestic violence and families in crisis, in settings which required crisis intervention and clinical skills. Currently, Hans serves as the Senior Director of the Crime Victim Assistance Program in New York.  Hans will begin as the Executive Director of PAC on October 2, 2017.

“Nationwide, there is a strained relationship between the police and the communities they serve,” said Hans. “I look forward to partnering with the police officers and residents of Philadelphia to work every day to improve their unique relationship.”

As the Senior Director for New York’s Crime Victim Assistance Program, Hans helped to form and oversee a large scale partnership between Safe Horizon, the largest victim services agency in the country, and the New York City Police Department, the largest police department in the country. Previously, Hans served as Director of Youth Services at an agency which provided re-entry services as well as alternatives to incarceration and detention. Hans also previously served as a forensic social worker in New York City’s court system, where he provided clinical assessment and intervention to youth and families involved with the Family Courts and integrated domestic violence courts.

Hans was appointed by the current members of PAC. Commissioner Ronda Goldfein said of Hans’ appointment, “The Police Advisory Commission has great potential to serve Philadelphia. I am confident that with our new executive director and, soon, a full complement of 13 commissioners, the Police Advisory Commission will be a reliable resource for thorough and prompt civilian oversight of police and community relations.”

The City will also announce PAC’s 13 new commission members this week.  Mayor Kenney and Commissioner Ross also spoke on Hans appointment.

“The Police Advisory Commission will help Philadelphia tackle one of the most difficult issues facing cities in the 21st century,” said Mayor Kenney. “I thank Hans for his dedication to improving police-community relations.”

Commissioner Ross added, “I value efforts that support the department’s commitment to public safety, accountability, partnerships and community connection.”
