The Philly Future Track program is designed to engage young adults who are not enrolled in higher education and are unemployed to perform meaningful public service work aimed at either improving neighborhood beautification by removing litter and debris or assisting in improving the city’s transportation network by performing roadway maintenance or supporting construction inspections or traffic investigations work.

Participants were assigned to a specific program track based upon interest and ability and granted an opportunity to apply and compete for City of Philadelphia civil service employment upon successful completion of all programmatic requirements.

2017 Philly Future Track Program Results:

  • 31 students in class (40 original)
  • 13 anticipated hires by the Streets Department

2017 Philly Future Track Program Results (by track):

  • Neighborhood Beautification
    • 75 alleys cleaned
    • 10 alleys cleaned for the Philadelphia Police Department
    • 171.87 tons of debris removed; 343,740 pounds of debris removed
  • Roadway Maintenance
    • 13 miles of roadway were paved and line striped
  • Construction
    • Contribution to the Citywide Pavement Management program, in preparation of upcoming Citywide street milling and repaving contracts
    • Oversight of several Streets Department/Water Department joint effort street reconstruction projects
    • Inspection effort of an Historic Streets Reconstruction Project (300 block of S. American Street)
  • Traffic Investigation
    • Assisted with preparation of line striping work orders for 70 miles of street being paved in the 2017 season
    • Helped prepare approximately 50-60 work orders (each) in response to requests of various stakeholders (citizens, private developers and elected officials)
