I’m excited to share information on the CommunityWINS grant program!

The CommunityWINS (Working/Investing in Neighborhood Stabilization) program, funded by Wells Fargo and administered by the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), is designed to support local nonprofits in promoting long-term economic prosperity and quality of life for their community.

Awards recognize outstanding mayoral-based initiatives that assist a city in promoting economic growth and sharing best practices with other cities.

Priority will be given to projects or programs that work with Philly’s immigrant or refugee communities to provide a pathway to citizenship and help establish permanent roots in the community.

Partnerships and collaborative projects are encouraged.

The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Grants, Office of Immigrant Affairs, and Office of Policy will make its recommendations to the Mayor using the criteria established by the CommunityWINS grant program. The Mayor will then nominate his favorite applications for the grant. Up to three competitive applications will be endorsed.

Rules

Per CommunityWINS application guidelines, eligible programs must address one of the following categories:

Neighborhood stabilization: Projects designed to stimulate growth and stability while assisting in the removal of blight and the rebuilding of neighborhoods.
Economic development: Projects designed to promote business development.
Job creation: Projects designed to aid in local job creation or assist in job training.

Two awards are available for large cities (population 250k or larger): one $300,000 award and one $75,000 award.

Winners will be announced at the USCM Annual Meeting in June of this year.

How To Apply

Applications for the CommunityWINS Grant Program are due by March 17.

However, in order to be considered for Mayor Kenney’s endorsement, prospective applicants must submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017.

LOIs should be no longer than 2 pages and must include the following information:

Application Cover Sheet
Issue Area(s) Addressed (Neighborhood Stabilization, Economic Development and/or Job Creation)
Program/Project Description (No more than 500 words)
