Wawa Welcome America wants to learn about your history!

America is a melting pot like no other country in the world. On the surface, we have different skin, hair, eyes, styles of dress – but our differences go deeper than that. We come from different places – some of our families have been here for generations, some of us just got here. We have different customs, cultures, and traditions. We have different hopes and dreams, skills and abilities.

It’s these differences that make our country worth celebrating. Like a mosaic – each piece is beautiful on its own, but together, it’s truly magnificent.

Wawa Welcome America and the City of Philadelphia Mayor’s Office of Education wants you to show us YOUR part of our great American mosaic. Every single one of us makes history in some way, big or small, and we want to know about your history. We want to see what makes you unique.

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. What is your history? Or – what do you want it to be some day? (You can also think about your family’s history, your ancestors, or your community.)
  2. What’s your vision? Capture it on video! You can recite a poem, sing, dance, or simply speak – it’s your story, so tell it how you want! Here’s some inspiration.
  3. Get someone to help you record yourself – the finished product should be 30-90 seconds. (If you’re not comfortable being on video, you could use your voice and record something or someone else.)
  4. Email your video to myvideo@welcomeamerica.com by July 4th.
  5. Your video will appear on Wawa Welcome America’s YouTube channel!
  6. You must be in K-12th grade and live in Philadelphia to participate.

Prizes: The top three videos will be featured during the festival on Wawa Welcome America’s big screens, and could also be highlighted by NBC10 and Telemundo62!  Selected participants may be recognized during the festival with special perks, including a Wawa Welcome America prize pack.

Take this opportunity to learn something new about those around you!
