The Phillies are back and the weather’s getting warmer — which means a lot is happening in Philadelphia!

#PhillyMayorThisWeek recaps five moments from the past seven days you might’ve missed.

Take four minutes to get updated on what’s going on in your city!

1. Mayor Kenney attended the Phillies home opener.

Despite a gloomy April afternoon, thousands turned out for the Phillies home opener — including Mayor Kenney! Spirits were high despite a 7-6 loss to the Washington Nationals. Don’t fret, though: The Fightin’ Phils went on to dominate the Nats in the series with two wins — including a 17-3 showing on Saturday night where the Phillies scored 12 runs in the first inning, a first in Phillies history!

2. The Mayor thanked Philadelphians participating the Philly Spring Cleanup.

An annual tradition now in its 10th year, the Philly Spring Cleanup spruces up the city to get ready for summer. Volunteers and City workers helped remove litter from over 700 different sites that ranged from neighborhood blocks, parks, and even SEPTA stations.

3. Mayor Kenney visited the Joseph E. Coleman neighborhood library to see Free Library’s Sunday Literacy Program.

Now in its pilot stage, the Sunday Literacy Program is part of Read by 4th, a citywide effort to increase the number of students in Philadelphia entering the 4th grade at reading level by 2020. To check out the program, Mayor Kenney stopped by the Joseph E. Coleman neighborhood library in Germantown. While there, he talked about the importance of Rebuild: The City’s $500M initiative to build up Philadelphia’s parks, rec centers, and libraries that’s funded in part from the Philadelphia Beverage Tax. You can sign up to receive Rebuild updates online.

4.  The Mayor celebrated Wawa Day and thanked the company for its many contributions to Philadelphia.

Wawa Day isn’t just an opportunity for free coffee — it’s also a great time to remember the company’s economic (and cultural!) contributions to Philadelphia. This week, the Mayor was happy to announce that Wawa is opening two new stores within the city limits, meaning more jobs and stronger community partnerships. Wawa was one of the first sponsors of the City’s annual Welcome America! festivities on Independence Day, and this week they announced that they’re extending their partnership for two more years.

5. Mayor Kenney kicked off the registration season for the Philadelphia International Unity Cup.

A World Cup style tournament held over several months, the Philadelphia International Unity Cup also unites the city’s neighborhoods and immigrant communities through soccer. After its massively successful inaugural year in 2016, the Unity Cup became an annual tradition. This week, Mayor Kenney kicked off the Unity Cup’s season, announcing that team registration is now open. Interested in playing or forming a team? Visit the Unity Cup’s website!

The #PHLUnityCup is an event that brings Philly together like no other, and unites our immigrant populations while making our city stronger. Learn how to register your team: ow.ly/URNC30aETIp
