PHILADELPHIA – Here’s a suggestion for Philadelphians who are staying home today because of the inclement weather: explore the Mayor’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2019 Budget through the City’s Open Data Visualization Tool.

The tool can be found at http://www.phila.gov/openbudget/.  The site features an interactive visualization tool that allows users to easily browse, filter and drill down into the data within their web browser.  The release of the data is the result of efforts of the City’s Finance Departments and the Office of Open Data and Digital Transformation.

“My Administration’s commitment to expanding transparency through Open Data is unwavering,” said Mayor Kenney.  “We want to ensure that everyone, in every neighborhood, has equal access to City services and information.  This budget visualization is great example of this commitment, as it brings our budget proposals to life in a simple and engaging way.”

The visualization tool allows users to drill-down through the expenditure side of the proposed budget by funding source, department, and expense-type. The data is also available in a downloadable open data format.  The expense types are high-level, allowing users to see how much is proposed for categories like “equipment” and “personal services.”

Mayor Kenney delivered the Fiscal Year 2019 operating budget, capital program and Five Year Plan to City Council on March 1, 2018.  The spending plans propose vital new investments in the City’s public schools, Police and Fire Departments, and infrastructure.

A primary focus of the spending plan is the proposal for a historic investment in the Philadelphia School District. This investment will provide financial stability for the District over the next five years so our students and our schools can continue building on the real progress they’ve made in recent years.
