Police Officer Gregory Yatcilla and Amy Abecunas, wife of Fire Capt. David Abecunas, will be recognized for losing the most weight during this year’s Battle of the Badges. They’ll receive Keurig coffee makers and $100 each from Weight Watchers, which sponsors the annual weight-loss contest between the Fire and Police Departments. Officer Yatcilla will donate his coffee maker to the Crime Scene Unit, while Ms. Abecunas will give hers to Engine 36, where her husband works.

The Fire Department holds the edge (16-15) in 31 years of competition. The combined overall weight loss is nearly 196,000 pounds, and Weight Watchers has contributed $267,500 for scholarships for children of police officers and firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
