Education Support Center

Helping children and youth in DHS care achieve their fullest academic potential.

About

We work with the School District to prevent disruptions to a child's education when they are placed in DHS care. We also identify and remove educational barriers for children in the child welfare system.

Our Education Support Center representatives, known as ESC liaisons, address education-related problems a student in DHS care may be having, including:

  • Academic problems.
  • Attendance barriers and truancy.
  • Transportation to and from school.
  • Support for children with special education needs.

How we help children and youth

The Education Support Center (ESC) provides resources, referrals, and linkages to services to enhance educational stability and support the educational needs of children and youth involved with DHS from kindergarten to college.

The priorities of ESC are to:

  • Maintain the education stability of children in DHS care.
  • Work with the School District to prevent school moves and any other disruptions to a child's education when in DHS care.
