Fire Commissioner Adam K. Thiel will administer the oath of office at the graduation ceremony for the 193rd Firefighter Cadet Class. Thirty-four cadets belong to the Philadelphia Fire Department; two are from the Upper Darby Fire Department.
Several cadets are joining family members already on the job. Among them are PFD Cadets James Kelly and Nicholas Barile, who received badges from their relatives. Cadet Kelly received badge #1787, previously worn by his father, Capt. James Kelly; Cadet Barile received badge #3923, previously worn by his brother, Lt. Ernie Barile. (Fire Department officers do not wear numbered badges.)
The cadets will be presented with awards for Academic Excellence, Physical Fitness, Spirit, Commissioner’s Leadership, Fellowship, Class Spokesperson and the Eugene Janda Instructor’s Service Award.
