Media Guidance for Tomorrow’s Philly Free Streets

(Philadelphia)- The people-powered initiative of the City of Philadelphia, Philly Free Streets, will be back tomorrow from 8AM – 1PM. Philly Free Streets temporarily closes streets to cars, inviting people to walk, bike, and play. Philly Free Streets is completely free and open to the public.

All ages are welcome. Participants are welcome to walk, bike, or stroll a 7-mile round trip car-free route connecting Philadelphia’s Historic District and El Centro de Oro.

  • The day begins at 8am with a formal ribbon cutting at 3rd and Chestnut Streets, led by City officials, City Council members, and sponsors.
  • At 9am, Mayor Kenney will join participants in a Philly Free Streets power walk for the length of the route, starting out at 3rd & Chestnut Streets.
  • Operational details, including parking and transit information, can be found here.
  • Additional information can be found at the Philly Free Streets website.
  • Along the Philly Free Streets route, participants are asked to use the street as if it were a two-way street, with bi-directional people-powered traffic. Slower “traffic” should keep right of their lane, while people on wheels should keep left.
  • People on wheels should keep a safe speed—take time to enjoy the experience and to take in the sights. There is no formal starting or stopping place—join in the fun anywhere along the route, anytime during the program.
