Ridership doubled during SEPTA strike, Indego provided needed transportation option for commuters, low-income individuals.

Philadelphia, PAPhiladelphia, PA – Indego, Philadelphia’s public bike share transportation system, played a major role in keeping Philadelphia moving during the SEPTA service interruption this past week.

Indego daily ridership doubled during that period, with a total of more than 24,000 trips.  Ridership averaged more than 3600 trips, with a peak of 4300 trips last Friday. This marked an increase over the average weekday ridership of 2,400 trips per day since our spring expansion.

During the service interruption, Indego staff worked hard to provide extra bikes and dock capacity at key stations during morning and evening rush hours.  Sales of the $15 Indego30 monthly pass increased by 9 times over the past week, and the $5 Indego Access monthly pass accounted for more than 1 of every 7 passes sold.

In addition, more than 2400 of the Indego trips during the SEPTA service interruption were made by Access Pass holders, proving that Indego is an important transportation option for people of all income levels. The Indego Access Pass is available to anyone who receives benefits such as food stamps or subsidized healthcare through the Pennsylvania Access Program.  It is just one of the ways that the City of Philadelphia shows its commitment to making the Indego Bike Share program the most comprehensive and socially equitable in the nation.

Indego will continue to offer enhanced service as SEPTA resumes operations over the next day.  Check www.rideindego.com or on Twitter (@rideindego) for up to date information.

Indego Bike Share is making it easier for voters to get to the polls on general election day. Indego walk-up trips will be discounted to $1 for 30 minute trips, compared with the normal $4 charge tomorrow, November 8th, from 12am-10pm. The discount is intended to encourage ridership and access to the polls, and allow new users to try the system.

And — Philly to a Milli!
Indego, Philadelphia’s newest public transportation system, is poised to reach 1 million rides this November. To celebrate this milestone, Indego will be running a series of promotions from November 1st until the Millionth Ride, which is expected sometime this week.

The Philly to a Milli campaign started on November 1st and is open to anyone who rides Indego. Each trip taken will enter the rider into a raffle, and the winning rider will have a station named in their honor for the next 6 months. The more trips taken, the better the odds. To celebrate the contest and milestone, Indego is planning station dock parties with giveaways from Indego’s presenting sponsor Independence Blue Cross, participating sponsor Capital One, and many more partners from their Passholder Perks program.
