WHAT:  The Mayor’s Office of Education and School District of Philadelphia will announce the second cohort of neighborhood schools selected to become City of Philadelphia designated community schools.

In 2016, the initiative launched in nine District-managed schools, where City-employed coordinators work with school staff and community members to increase resources that address student and community needs.

This year, more schools will partner with the City and receive a school-based Community School Coordinator to implement the community schools strategy at the schools.

By 2020, the City aims to transform 25 existing public schools into community schools, pending the resolution of litigation challenging the Philadelphia Beverage Tax.
