The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Open Data and Digital Transformation (ODDT) has launched the Digital Transformation Fellows program for 2017. ODDT is hiring fellows in the areas of content design, web analytics, user experience design, and project management for full-time positions from March to June 2017.

ODDT was created in 2016 by the Chief Administrative Officer to collaborate with departments, the public, and other stakeholders, employing human-centered design methods to create services that support the success and well-being of all Philadelphians.

The fellowships will be offered in an area that is chief among ODDT’s initiatives: the www.phila.gov prototype. More than a technology project, it’s a massive City-wide collaboration to reorient the City’s main service channel, phila.gov, around the needs of residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.

There’s growing interest among civic-minded professionals to contribute to the success of local government and the well-being of fellow residents. The Digital Transformation Fellows program is an opportunity for talented professionals to help the City succeed by working inside government for a short period of time on high impact digital transformation work, without necessarily making a career change.

Last year, the City worked with two user experience design fellows, Kim-Thao Nguyen and Robert del Prado, to lead beta’s usability testing. Because the experience was successful, ODDT is expanding the fellows program to bring on several more roles:

  • The project management fellow will coordinate with over 60 City agencies to deliver templated one-pagers for City agencies.
  • The user experience design fellow will help design major new sections of beta.
  • The team of content design fellows will work on a massive content audit that will inform new strategies around beta’s information architecture and overarching content design.
  • The web analytics fellow will analyze web traffic, navigation patterns, search queries, and targeted survey results.

Together with the rest of ODDT, they’ll overhaul the site’s information architecture and user experience—ensuring that it’s a more dignified, accessible, and effective experience for those supporting and using phila.gov.

Interested candidates can access information about the opportunities on ODDT’s jobs page.
