The 2016-2017 school year is about to kick off and Mayor’s Office of Education (MOE) staff members are having a great time attending back to school events and community celebrations that mark the end of summer and beginning of classes. This past weekend, MOE staff were out in the community sharing how to get involved with community schools, pre-K, and STEM/Career and Technical Education.

The first stop was the School District of Philadelphia’s annual Back to School event on Friday, August 25th in West Philadelphia at High School of the Future. We answered questions about pre-K, how to enroll in Kindergarten, and many more topics that can be found on our website’s resources page.

Mayor Kenney also stopped by to meet families and check out the great resources and services being offered.

Next stop was Northeast Philadelphia for “A Northeast Celebration” with Take Back Your Neighborhood at Max Meyers Playground. There, our team was joined by a young pre-K supporter who encouraged parents to sign up for pre-K enrollment updates and learn about community schools.

Meanwhile, in South Philadelphia, our team members attended Councilman Kenyatta Johnson’s annual Community Appreciation Day event. We enjoyed speaking with local residents, handing out sweet treats, and enjoying a concert in the middle of Point Breeze Avenue!
