More than 100 of Philadelphia’s 500+ Centenarians turned out for the Mayor’s 17th Annual Centenarian Celebration.  And, many came ready to party, meet the mayor, dance and even check out the slots at Sugar House Casino.  In large part, Philadelphia’s Centenarians were dressed to the “nines” in ensembles that matched their effervescent personalities. The contingent of 100+ year old residents were spry, some drove themselves to the event, many laughed when asked if they had any dietary restrictions, and almost all had a story to tell.

The Celebration included live music and dance performances, a three course meal, and the cutting of a ceremonial birthday cake with Mayor Kenney and Philadelphia’s oldest female and male residents, Barnetta Williams, 109 and Eli Zebooker, 104.  This year’s event shed light on a population that is growing older in age, but not in spirit, leaving some to call 100, the new 90.

Photos from the event help to capture the spirit of the event.
