Mayor Kenney Appoints New Director for Office of Emergency Management

PHILADELPHIA –  Today, Mayor Kenney formally announced that Dan Bradley would serve as the City’s Director of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The search for the Office’s new director took several months, engaging candidates from both inside City government and across the country. Dan Bradley began his career with OEM in 2011, serving as a Planning Coordinator, Program Manager and, most recently, as the Deputy Director for Operations, which oversees homeland security, logistics, information technology, emergency operations center, watch command management, GIS, and data science programs. Prior to joining OEM, Bradley worked for an architecture and planning firm in New York City, where he oversaw the implementation of security devices surrounding the Wall Street area of Lower Manhattan’s Financial District.

“Dan has served the City well for the last six years, and I’m excited to see what his particular focus on data and planning will bring to both our emergency planning and special event preparation,” said Mayor Kenney. “I thank him for taking on such a significant responsibility for the people of Philadelphia.”

During his time with the City, Bradley has served in a leadership role during several manmade and weather emergencies, including the collapse at 22nd and Market Streets, Super Storm Sandy, the Amtrak derailment and Hurricane Irene.

“Serving the city in this capacity is a great honor and a responsibility I do not take lightly,” said Bradley. “I believe emergency management at the city level is one of best jobs to have in public service. You spend your time working with partners to develop plans to address the worst days the city could face. When emergencies strike, you then play a role in how those plans are applied and help the community recover. Every day is a new challenge and because of that OEM’s are places of constant innovation. Philadelphia OEM is made up of a talented and devoted group of public servants. I am lucky to work with them.”
