PHILADELPHIA – Mayor Jim Kenney released a statement following Governor Tom Wolf’s agreement to release half a year’s worth of state aid to Pennsylvania schools and partially restore charter reimbursement funding, which was cut in 2011.

“Our children, teachers and families will benefit greatly from Governor Wolf’s actions to partially restore charter reimbursement funding. We still have a long way to go in achieving a full, fair state funding formula, but this is an extremely important first step to correct the wrongs of the Corbett administration. While Governor Corbett liked to blame the City of Philadelphia for fiscal mismanagement of the state-run School District, it is actually the City who has increased funding to our schools by over $390 million over the last eight years, while Corbett cut nearly a billion statewide. Unlike his predecessor, Governor Wolf recognizes that we can’t play politics with our children’s education.”
