Based on data from the year, Philadelphia is likely to record more than 1,200 overdose deaths. In response the Department of Behavioral Health and disAbility Services (DBHIDS) is taking an all hands-on deck approach to combat the epidemic. People interested in how they can help may attend trainings on how to administer Narcan (Naloxone), a lifesaving drug that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses.

The two-hour training teaches how to properly identify overdose victims and ways to recognize the drugs being abused as part of the epidemic as well as overdose risk factors.
