The Department of Revenue is knocking on thousands of doors in Philadelphia this summer. Our goal is to get more homeowners to sign up for City programs that lower property taxes.
Real Estate Tax relief programs save Philadelphians millions of dollars each year. However, we know many neighbors are still missing out. We’re spreading the word in different ways, including bringing information right to residents’ doorsteps.
Unsolicited house calls are annoying. But if someone representing the Department of Revenue comes knocking (they’ll be wearing a badge with the Revenue logo), there are at least three good reasons to open up. These are the programs we’re promoting:
- OOPA – If you have property taxes that are past due, the Owner-Occupied Payment Agreement allows you to pay them back through affordable, monthly installments.
- Senior Tax Freeze – If you’re a low-income senior citizen, this program “freezes” your Real Estate Tax bill. Property assessment or tax rates can go up, but your tax amount stays the same.
- Homestead – If you own a home Philadelphia, and live in it, the Homestead Exemption lowers the Real Estate Tax you owe. There are no income or age requirements.
You can sign up for OOPA anytime, but the deadline for Senior Tax Freeze and Homestead is September 13!
If you’re signed up for a Real Estate Tax relief program already, we’re asking you to share the information with others.
Do you have an elderly neighbor who hasn’t heard about Senior Tax Freeze? Is there a new homeowner on you block who may not know about Homestead? Please take one of our flyers and pass it on. You’ll be doing them—and us—a big favor.
