PHILADELPHIA — Tomorrow, July 14, Mayor Kenney will depart for Québec City, Canada to participate in an international business trip focusing on city-to-city relationship building and business development. Official activities for the trip will begin on Saturday, July 15, when he is joined by representatives from the Philadelphia Department of Commerce.

The Philadelphia delegation will be in Québec City July 15-17. Department of Commerce staff will continue on to Montréal, where they will conduct additional meetings July 18-19.

“Canada has long been a strong partner, not just to the United States, but for our city and region in particular,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “I look forward to meeting with Québec City’s mayor, Régis Labeaume, to learn more about how we can strengthen our existing relationship. As the global economy continues to shift, it is essential that Philadelphia explore prospects outside of the United States. Given the number of existing ties between our city and Canada, including trade partnerships and shared industry strengths, I am encouraged by the opportunities that could materialize from this trip.”

Activities during the trip will include: meetings with local administration officials and leaders from tech and education, a roundtable event at Bentley Systems — which has offices in both Philadelphia and Québec, a tour of the World Heritage Site of Old Québec, and pitch sessions with businesses interested in investing in and developing trade with the U.S.

The City will cover travel costs for four Department of Commerce staff participating in the mission, as well as Mayor Kenney and an additional staffer from the Mayor’s Office. The total estimated costs for the trip are less than $15,000.
