June is Immigrant Heritage Month and the Office of Immigrant Affairs is participating! A national month, Immigrant Heritage Month uses storytelling to highlight immigrants and their diverse experiences. Through immigrant stories, we see that immigrants are like many people born in the US: they have their own struggles, triumphs, and contributions to make.

In 2018, Immigrant Heritage Month is expanding on the storytelling theme. In addition to exploring immigrant identities, the month wants to highlight how stories connect us. How do we connect despite our differences? Why do you stand with Philadelphia’s immigrants?

To celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month, the Office of Immigrant Affairs is partnering with the Free Library of Philadelphia and local organizations to host events that feature immigrants and their stories. The events are held in local library branches and different neighborhoods throughout the city. Check out our full list of events!

Immigrant Heritage Month also coincides with the Free Library’s World Traveling Trunks program and the Department of Commerce’s Passport PHL.  World Traveling Trunks are cultural toolboxes that build cultural awareness, embrace diversity, and celebrate the people enriching Philadelphia’s local communities.  Visit a World Traveling Trunk to connect with the traditions, histories, and ways of living of global citizens.  Similarly, Passport PHL is a way to explore another neighborhood.  Visit participating businesses in June, collect a stamp at each, and earn special discounts after you earn three!
