A few months ago, we asked Philadelphians to share what they wanted to see in their schools and identify the most important individual and group attributes for the incoming Board of Education. Today, we have the results of that city-wide survey.

Between December 12, 2017 and February 7, 2018, more than 3,000 respondents representing all residential Philadelphia zip codes completed the survey.

Some of the top school-improvement priorities identified by survey respondents were:

  • improved school climate
  • investing in music and arts curriculum
  • increasing literacy levels by fourth grade

Respondents also noted that strong ethics and integrity, past experience as an educator, and being a parent of a student were important attributes in individual school board members.

The results of the survey will be shared with the Educational Nominating Panel, which is tasked with recommending 27 applicants for the Board of Education to Mayor Kenney.

You can check out the complete survey results – including responses by stakeholder group – in the published report.
