This past Martin Luther King Jr. Day the F.S. Edmonds community, led by Community School Coordinator Robin M. Torrence, came together to complete a school beautification project. As part of its Community School plan (pdf), Edmonds parents, staff, students, partners, and community members shared that they wanted to identify volunteers and resources to help with school beautification, and MLK Day was the perfect time to make that happen!
On Monday, nearly 40 community members volunteered to paint the 2nd floor hallway at F.S. Edmonds with supplies donated by District Council 21.

Some of the volunteers included Councilwoman Cherelle Parker and her office, SERVE Philadelphia, Mayor’s Office of Education staff, and students from local sororities.

Volunteers worked into the afternoon to make sure that the school would look perfect for students the next day.
A fresh coat of paint may seem like a small change to some, but school staff and parents knew it would mean so much more for the students. The new light blue hallways bring a sense warmth and vibrancy to the school.
MLK Day of Service at F.S. Edmonds today. 35-40 volunteers painted the 2nd floor hallway. AWESOME DAY!!

More exciting things are on the horizon for F.S. Edmonds. The school just hosted their first Parent Cafe where parents enjoyed breakfast and got to meet and mingle with each other as well as learn about resources available to them.
F.S.Edmonds had it’s First Parent Cafe’! Sponsored by Tabor Community Partners. Parents were engaged and excited for this event. They are already looking forward to the next one! Stay tuned!#CommunitySchoolsPHL @PHL_MOE pic.twitter.com/Folq1X9yKx
