City Announces Road Closures and Parking Restrictions for 2018 Women’s March 

PHILADELPHIA – On Saturday, January 20^th, 2018, the “Women’s March on Philadelphia” demonstration will take place on Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Eakins Oval.  To ensure the safety of participants and the public, road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented.

Delays can be expected during the course of the event.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes, and allow for extra driving time in areas near the event.  Please refrain from double-parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow and is illegal.

Road Closures

Participants in the march will assemble at Logan Circle, Aviator Park and Benjamin Franklin Parkway beginning at 8:00AM.  The march will commence at 11:00AM.  The march will start at 20^th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway and proceed westbound to Eakins Oval, where the rally will commence at 12:00PM.  The demonstration is scheduled to conclude at 3:00PM.

The following streets will be closed starting at 5:00AM until approximately 6:00PM on Saturday, January 20^th:

• Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 18^th Street and 20^th Street (including Logan Circle)
• 19^th Street between Race Street and Vine Street
• Race Street between 20^th Street and Logan Circle
• 20^th Street between Arch Street and Callowhill Street
• Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 20^th Street and Eakins Oval (all lanes)
• 21^st Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Winter Street
• 22^nd Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Race Street
• 23^rd Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
• Spring Garden Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
• 2000 Winter Street
• Kelly Drive (outbound) from Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Fairmount Avenue
• Martin Luther King Drive between Eakins Oval and Montgomery Drive
• Spring Garden Street Bridge at 31^st Street (Local access maintained to Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive)

Starting at 5:00AM on Saturday, January 20^th, inbound (eastbound) traffic on Kelly Drive must exit Kelly Drive at Fairmount Avenue due to the closure of the outer lanes on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway,. Those wishing to access the west side of the Philadelphia Museum of Art may continue to 25^th Street and turn right on Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive. Streets will be serviced and reopened as the march progresses westbound on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.  It is expected that portions of Logan Circle and 20^th Street will be opened to vehicular traffic prior to 6:00PM.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and other Parkway institutions will remain OPEN for business on Saturday, January 20^th, 2018.  Visitors are encouraged to check individual websites for hours of operation.

The Franklin Institute will remain OPEN for business on Saturday, January 20^th.  The main entrance on 20^th Street will be open, and guests driving into the area are encouraged to utilize the Franklin Institute’s parking garage.  The parking garage can be accessed by traveling eastbound on Winter Street from either 22^nd Street or the I-676 off-ramp.  Vehicles will be directed to turn right at 21^st and Winter Streets, and the garage entrance is on 21^st Street on the left.

Parking Restrictions

The following streets will be posted as “Temporary No Parking” zones from 5:00AM-6:00PM on Saturday, January 20^th:

• Benjamin Franklin Parkway from 16^th Street to 20^th Streets (both sides of the street)
• 20^th Street from Race Street to Benjamin Franklin Parkway (east side of the street)
• 19^th Street from Cherry Street to Vine Street (both sides of the street)
• 18^th Street from Arch Street to Vine Street (both sides of the street)
• 17^th Street from Race Street to Arch Street (both sides of the street)
• 1600 Cherry Street (both sides of the street)
• Benjamin Franklin Parkway from 20^th Street to Eakins Oval (all lanes; both sides)
• 21^st Street between Pennsylvania Avenue & Race Street (both sides of street)
• 22^nd Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Winter Street (both sides of street)
• 2100-2200 Spring Garden Street (north side of the street)
• 2000 Winter Street
• 1400-1500 JFK Blvd. (north side of the street)

Please obey all “Temporary No Parking” signs.  Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated.

Public Transportation

SEPTA Bus Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43 and 48 will be detoured from their normal routes through the Benjamin Franklin Parkway area beginning at 5:00AM on Saturday, January 20^th through approximately 6:00PM.  Detours will be posted and specific route changes are available on the System Status Page at www.septa.org.

Public Safety Information
Due to the projected size and scope of the 2018 Women’s March on Philadelphia on January 20^th, 2018, the City will be implementing some additional security measures to ensure the safety of all in attendance.

Event attendees can enter the march assembly area at Logan Circle at the following locations:

• 18^th Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway
• 20^th & Race Streets
• 20^th & Vine Streets

Event attendees wishing to attend only the rally portion of the event may access Eakins Oval and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the following additional locations:

• 22^nd Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway (north and south sides)
• Pennsylvania Avenue & Spring Garden Street
• 25^th Street & Kelly Drive
• Eakins Oval (south side, near 24^th Street)

Items NOT allowed inside the venue include:

• Weapons and contraband of any kind (regardless of permitting, e.g. Right-to-Carry permits will not be honored and weapons will be confiscated)
• Fireworks or explosives
• Illegal or illicit substances of any kind
• Skateboards, motorized vehicles or scooters (excluding motorized wheelchairs or similar equipment)
• Laser pointers
• Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) & drones of any kind

Attendees are strongly discouraged from carrying bags, backpacks, or satchels of any kind.  All bags are subject to search, and therefore, the presence of bags could create delays in allowing attendees to enter the event.

Leave no bags or items unattended.  In an emergency or to report a suspicious person, activity or item (a backpack, a package, a container), notify a police officer immediately or call 9-1-1.  Do not try to open, move, cover or touch a suspicious item.

In addition, the public should expect congestion in the area.  If you are attending the event, make a plan regarding driving, public transit, parking, and supervision of children.  Be prepared to wait to enter and exit the area.  We recommend that attendees wear comfortable, weather-appropriate attire.
