As we rapidly approach the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, holiday shopping, light shows, and family-friendly activities are ramping up!

Are you participating in the holiday fun with a Christmas tree in your house? Be sure to read these tips from the Philadelphia Fire Department to keep your home safe!

In between stringing up lights and buying gifts, you might’ve missed the news, so #PhillyMayorThisWeek recaps five moments from the past seven days.

1. The City had its first snowfall of the 2017-18 season.

Iconic skyscrapers that make up Philly's skyline are on the horizon about a mile away. The perspective is from standing on the South Street Bridge. There is a boardwalk in the Schuylkill River covered in snow. The sky is clear and it is morning.

2. Despite the snow, thousands of Philadelphians and visitors enjoyed the annual Army-Navy Game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Mayor Kenney attended to support both teams; Army bested Navy 14-13. The game will be in Philadelphia four of the next five years, too: 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.

3. The Mayor visited Paul Robeson High School to see firsthand the progress the school has made.

A few years ago, Robeson was slated for closure. The school has turned around and is getting national attention for its progress, including various community partnerships and a 95-percent graduation rate.

Amazing progress and hard work going on at Robeson High. So proud of these students, teachers, administrators, and families!

4. Mayor Kenney joined City officials to light up Boathouse Row to celebrate Hanukkah.

The famed Philly landmark along the Schuylkill will also twinkle in honor of Christmas and Kwanzaa later this month.

5. The City released a survey about public education in Philadelphia.

As the City continues the process of returning the School District to local control, the Mayor wants parents, teachers, students, and all residents to express opinions about what is important to them.

As we continue the process of returning the School District to local control, I want to make sure that all Philadelphians are heard. Share what you want in our schools here: www.phila.gov/LocalControlSurvey
